We believe that there is a yoga practice that's uniquely right for everyone, and we offer a window to the wide world of possibilities in health for the body, the mind, and the soul. Namaste.
Studio owners Kim Kash and Michael Cooney have been struggling with the question of whether, and how, they can keep Greenbelt Om open in these difficult economic times. The conclusion they have reached is this: Greenbelt Om must add 90 new annual memberships to our books before the end of October. If this goal is not met, Greenbelt Om Community Yoga will close at the end of November.
If you're doing Yoga, Pilates, or T'ai Chi at least twice a week--and most experts recommend at least that--then this is the most economical way to take classes at Greenbelt Om. So make a commitment today to your own health, and to Greenbelt Om with an annual membership.
(Please note that if we do not meet our goal by the end of October, the November payment will be last one for annual passholders, and it will be pro-rated such that members will not be charged for classes beyond the end of November. Also, if you currently hold another kind of Om pass and wish to convert it to a monthly membership, we can accommodate that. Please email us at info@greenbeltom.com.)
Track our progress here! We need 90 new memberships by the end of October. Number of new annual memberships as of October 6th: 5
Love Lessons from Abu Ghraib is a moving solo performance by Philadelphia artist -- and yoga instructor -- Jennifer Schelter, based on her experiences recording torture testimony from former Iraqi detainees. She describes the show as a "puja (sacred ceremony) for awareness of basic human rights." Focussing on Schelter's remarkably open and far-ranging conversations with the detainees, "Love Lessons" offers a dignified and insightful perspective on a difficult chapter in recent U.S. history. The show is cosponsored by the Greenbelt Arts Center, the Greenbelt Recreation Department, Greenbelt Om Community Yoga, and Amnesty International, U.S.A. Tickets cost $10 and up, and advance purchase is recommended for this one-night-only event. Purchase tickets here. For telephone orders, call 301-397- 2208. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Greenbelt Community Center business office Monday through Friday, 9am - 4:30pm. For additional information, call 240-542-2057. Please note that due to its subject matter, this performance may not be suitable for all viewers; audience discretion is advised.
Are you tired? You need Yoga Nidra. Join us at 8 pm on Friday, October 3rd. Yoga Nidra ("yogic sleep") is the yogic tranquilizer, a rejuvenating practice for reducing the stresses of daily life. You'll get an intensive dose of deep relaxation during the workshop, and you'll go home and sleep well afterwards. In a place between the waking and sleeping states, students relax deeply on the physical, emotional and mental levels, and the practice sows new seeds of positive change in our minds. Yoga nidra guides students through awareness of sensations, emotions, and beliefs using a systematic method developed thousands of years ago. This meditative class is conducted with students lying down and requires no previous yoga experience. Reserve your space by pre-registering for the Yoga Nidra workshop. Current Om Pass holders may reserve space by simply adding their name to the class roster on the schedule found under the "classes" tab.
